Wilde Architects have recently been appointed on a commercial refurbishment project at Fairport House in Stockport. Proposals involve the demolition of some internal walls and new structural posts to create modern open-plan office space.
The objective of this project is to provide a simple and cost-effective refurbishment, prior to its occupation at the Start of Feb 2016.
The design concept creates a more open plan space, but looks to re-use an original refurbishment to save costs.
After taking a brief and understanding the history and previous works to the building, we created several options to rationalise the floor plans.
Respecting the age and character of the building was important when developing the interior design. New kitchen facilities, sanitaryware, tiling and lighting added a fun and contemporary feel to the project.
Initially it was necessary to carry out a measured survey, updating the floor plans and modelling the existing elevations. After developing the concept designs we processed a full planning application and produced the technical design for building control and tender. After meeting and selecting a contractor we carried out site inspections and provided on-going design and detailing support for the scheme.
‘Buju Architects brought an innovative re-imagining of the existing space to suit our business requirements resulting in an excellent working environment for staff and clients. The overall project scheme was sympathetic to the heritage of the existing building, combining original Victorian features with a more modern open feeling. Great job!’
